False information by Kosovo Police Service representative following incident near Decani Monastery

According to a report by Beta news agency the Kosovo Police Service has advised that it has no information that there was an attack this morning in the vicinity of Visoki Decani Monastery. KPS regional spokesman for Pec Avni Gjevukaj said that the Kosovo Police Service in the Pec region has no information of an attack last night "targeting and in the vicinity of Visoki Decani Monastery".

"The only incident that occurred in the monastery protected zone is an attempted theft in a junk metal warehouse," said Gjevukaj. He added that he asked the police station in Decani to verify allegations of an attack on the monastery and that he received the response that there was no attack.

REBUTTAL

The Visoki Decani Monastery administration publicly denies this false claim by the KPS representative for the Pec region. Fr. Sava Janjic spoke personally this morning with chief KPS spokesman Veton Elshani and informed him regarding what had happened in Decani during the night. Moreover, at about 8:00 a.m. Decani Monastery was visited by the chief of police from the Decani headquarters with two other KPS officials whom Fr. Sava provided with all information regarding last night's incident. Consequently, the statement of the KPS representative carried by Beta is false and represents an attempt to deceive the public.
